Turnout

I haven't a chance to look at all the states, but the Missouri results suggest a continued Democratic turnout surge. The state is pretty evenly divided between the two parties. Bush won the state 53-46 in 2004, but Democrat Claire McCaskill narrowly won a Senate seat there in 2006. In addition, both parties have open primaries, so independents could vote for either the Democrats or Republicans. This year, more than 810,000 voted in the Democratic party compared to only 584,000 in the Republican primary.
