McCain's Speech

All in all, not a strong speech. The pacing was horrendous. The slow, halting pace emphasized his age. It probably won't hurt him, but it's not going to help him much. If not for Palin, Republicans would be pretty dispirited by this convention.

He did mention Bush, but only as "the President." On the other hand, Laura Bush was mentioned by name.

I completely agree. Speeches are not a McCain strong point. There are few better, though, in give-and-take discussions on policy. Palin's speech, on the other hand, was great. Even had expectations for her not been low, which of course they were, that speech would have knocked everyone's socks off.
