Iowa Experience

Hillary Clinton is catching flak for this comment about the Iowa caucuses:

“I always thought that Iowa would be a challenge,” she said, “and I’m personally really pleased with how far I’ve come, never having done this with Bill. I’ve really been working to understand what was necessary to run a competitive campaign.” [Emphasis added.]

In fairness to her, neither she nor Bill has had to campaign seriously for the Iowa caucuses. In 1992, Clinton and every other Democratic candidate wrote off the caucuses because Iowa Senator Tom Harkin was assured of victory. In 1996, as the incumbent president, Clinton won the caucuses with no opposition.
