Remembering a Student

In this blog, we spend most of our time writing about our research and thoughts on the political scene. But most of us contributors are teachers. We all care about our students, which is a more important reason for joining the field than the chance to publish in professional journals.

Last week, for the first time in 21 years of teaching, I lost one of my students. Will Wagner was pre-med, not a government major. But he loved the subject because he loved learning in general. Today I was one of several people to deliver remarks at a memorial service.

It was a chance to reflect that students like Will are the reason we show up to work in the morning.

A good post on an important subject. Here are some further thoughts on remembering students who pass away.
