GOP Fundraising Woes

The Washington Post has a good story on the GOP's inability to recruit strong Senate candidates. Much of this is already known, but the really interesting information is on fundraising:

It is the NRSC's fundraising that some GOP operatives find underwhelming. At the end of August, the NRSC had raised $25 million, just a little less than its counterpart, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. But the DSCC has twice as much cash on hand, $16.7 million to the NRSC's $8.2 million.

Looking at the fundraising comparisons from the last midterm cycle (2002), the NRSC raised $73 million to $60 million for the DSCC. Of course, the fundraising cycle is only beginning, so these numbers may well change.

You know, they could probably find some better candidates if they'd just be willing to hear a fresh perspective.
