Oppo for Bush 41

On Monday, Phil asked whether the Republicans anticipated Clinton as an opponent in 1992. I have some firsthand knowledge here, as I was deputy director of research at RNC through mid-1991. Yes, there was a systematic effort to do research on all potential Democratic candidates, including Clinton. At the time, I thought that Cuomo might be the eventual nominee, but our Communications Director, B. Jay Cooper, cautioned that Clinton was a very formidable politician.
Events proved him right.
