He Who Must Not Be Named

No, not Lord Voldemort. I'm talking about President Bush. Was there even one mention of him in last night's speeches? There was one oblique reference in Palin's speech to those who "have fought the prospect of a McCain presidency - from the primary election of 2000 to this very day." Of course, no one fought that prospect harder in 2000 than George W. Bush. Even in 1968, Hubert Humphrey had this to say about Lyndon Johnson:

And what we are doing is in the tradition of Lyndon B. Johnson who rallied a grief-stricken nation when our leader was stricken by the assassin’s bullet and said to you and said to me and said to all the world: "Let us continue.”

And in the space of five years since that tragic moment, President Johnson has accomplished more of the unfinished business of America than any of his modern predecessors.

I do believe that history will surely record the greatness of his contribution to the people of this land.

And tonight, to you, Mr. President, I say: Thank you, thank you, Mr. President.

Perhaps there should be a drinking game--toss back a shot every time that John McCain mentions President Bush in his speech tonight. My guess is that he could give a 3 hour address and at the end you would be as sober as Mormon judge at a temperance meeting.
