Lots of questions about where President Bush has been during the financial crisis of the last few days. My quick response is to say, "Thank God. Things are bad enough without having him around." More seriously, Bush is a lame duck, but his no-show passivity is really amazing. Say what you will about Herbert Hoover and the Great Depression, but compared to Bush, the man was a bundle of energy, making lots of statements and trying to do things, albeit to little positive effect. The closest comparison is, perhaps, James Buchanan, who basically fiddled while the Union burned during the secession crisis of 1860-1861.
Update: This is how real presidents do it.
