Obama and Lott

Jonah Goldberg has this message from a reader:

Jonah,

The next time the Obama campaign repeats the line that he was only 8 years old when Bill Ayers was busy planting bombs, perhaps they should be reminded that Trent Lott was only 7 when Strom Thurmond ran for President.

True enough, but let's remember exactly what Lott said about Strom Thurmond:

I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either.

Imagine what would happen if Obama appeared in person with Ayers and said, "I'm proud of the people that supported the Weather Underground and if the rest of the country had followed their lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."

Exactly. The two situations are apples and oranges. Obama has never publicly voiced support for Bill Ayers or his past political/terrorist actions. He's done the complete opposite, in fact.
