Harriet Miers is already being ripped as less than stellar, even or perhaps especially by conservatives, so I'm expecting someone to step up and deliver a Hruska-esque defense of her qualifications. Hruska was the Republican Senator from Nebraska who said this about the eminently mediocre Nixon SCOTUS nominee Harold Carswell:
Even if he is mediocre, there are a lot of mediocre judges and people and lawyers. They are entitled to a little representation, aren't they?
Ah, the soft bigotry of high expectations.
